This
was an interesting video as it showed what led up to the rise of the Qin dynasty
and really the creation of Shi Huangdi. I had not realized the innovation and
power of people in such an ancient time. To completely cut through a mountain
and build an enormous levy would be seen as a feat today so to imagine this in
a time without excavating equipment or explosives is astounding. I also did not
know that the Qin dynasty was formed from such conquering and bloodshed, I
guess until the battles were illustrated I did not realize the power, strength and
time it took to unify and conquer all of China. Shi Huangdi was also illuminated
by this video clip because you were able to see what world he was raised in and
though it does not justify his later actions, it does help to explain why he
was so ruthless. To be given power over an empire at the age of 13 and have many
people looking for a way to eliminate you is not a good way to grow up. He had to fight to survive and avoid murder,
even at the hands of his own mother. And that could understandably harden a
person to brutality explaining why he made the choices he will make later in
history.
