 Nomads don't produced manufactured goods so that means that they need to trade. In order to trade the nomads need to live by settled people. 

2.) Why do pastoral peoples tend to be less patriarchal and more egalitarian?

 Both men and women need to work together in order to survive so women were almost always treated as a mans equal. 

3.) How did the Mongols choose their leaders?

 A perspective ruler would order a general counsel meeting and whom ever attened the meeting on their horses showed their support for the perspective leader.
