The Chinese interest in the western phone market is completely understandable. Business is booming, and who wouldn't want a slice of the money, especially with the technology they claim to have. To be a phone company and not want to extend your reach to the Americas, you would have to be crazy. The technology that hey have far exceeds the capabilities of the top of the line smart phones of today, which is hard to believe with the hype that we as consumers put around them, which makes this brand a hard sell. Getting into the market is one thing, and selling the product is a complete other.
The company claims to have a phone with high resolution and a 15 megapixel camera all the while being waterproof. This sounds too good to be true, and to many people it may be. We see the new Apple iPhone come out and we think that its the phone with the most quality assurance because its got all the latest innovations from a big name company. We don't stop to consider the idea that a company that is relatively unknown may have a better product because we haven't been inoculated with the information that is so readily available. These phones seem amazing, but exposure is the main reason why they wouldn't sell well among circles that weren't actively a part of technological advancement.
In this day and age, we have many things to be wary of. For some it may be terrorism or drone strikes or school shootings, but in the minds eye of the world, we have a huge emphasis on security through the products we use every day. If we cannot be guaranteed that safety, then there's a chance that people wouldn't want to support that product. Especially if a government flat out endorses not supporting these companies, as it is one of the worst forms of publicity. These phones, of "phablets" show great promise, and with a long battery span, a high resolution and a high resolution camera, and being waterproof, it shows that its a leading contender. What it really needs however is endorsement and a less sketchy background.
Excellent job Matt! I loved reading your post - you make some very astute observations!
